 Huna From Hawaii

Huna is a centuries old Hawaiian art of healing and spiritual growth.  It encourages self-reliance and self-responsibility in its practices through the thought that your inner state directly affects the atmosphere you live in and that your attitude affects your ability to enhance your inner life force.

People are constantly searching for answers to their problems and striving to identify external catalysts to their own fate.  The ancient Hawaiian practice of Huna suggests that the solutions to problems are present inside the person.  One's reality is the manifestation of their inner strength and self-knowledge.

In Hawaiian language Huna means 'hidden knowledge,' but not hidden in the sense that this knowledge is unattainable, but hidden in the sense that it lies in a state beyond what is visible.

Huna comes from within and is an affirmation of one's personal strength and energy.  'Aloha' is much more than a recognizable Hawaiian greeting.  Its' meaning includes the blissful sharing of one's life force now, in the present.

The range of possibilities is endless in regards to one's spiritual progression when practicing Huna.  According to Cristina Bar-Sella, a Huna teacher, leader and healer based in Israel, the key to experiencing high levels of success and epiphany with Huna is to study this art form and understand the entire range of benefits Huna generates.

For instance Huna gives the ability to heal oneself.  It is not a cure in itself, but a complementary practice that can heal the body, mind and spirit.

Bar-Sella says that the most important item to understand about Huna is that people are not victims of reality.  One's thoughts and feelings create situations and influence our external lives. Huna helps us to use our thoughts and feeling in a positive, productive and enlightened manner.

Truly understanding the art of Huna becomes a journey into the different levels of human consciousness we experience throughout our mortal life-cycle and recognition of the three selves present in all of us.  The three selves, according to Huna, are Aumakua, Lono and Ku.  Aumakua is the higher self.  The Lono self thinks, wants and can imagine.  Ku feels; being responsible for the body and memory and manifesting what Lono desires.

The traditional rituals of Huna have been modernized and brought to the Western world through the works of Dr. Serge Kahili King.  The traditional practices were adapted in such a way that preserved their ancient essence while having relevance and usefulness in our sometimes hectic modern lives.

The premier practice of Dr. King that has begun to sweep Europe and the United States over the past six years is the meditative technique of Dynamind.  This technique is said to help one change their reactions and heal the physical, mental and circumstantial ills of an individual.

Dynamind can be taught and studied at higher levels, but also applied by anyone who is willing through simple directions.  Dynamind is an exercise of poise, posture, concentration and touch.  It is a conversation with yourself and your inner strength enabling the body and person to solve or improve the trials and tribulations causing discomfort in their lives.

According to the writing of Dr. Serge Kahili King the most basic practice of Dynamind is as follows. "Choose a physical, emotional, or mental problem to work on.  Bring both hands together with your fingertips touching.  Make the following statement, aloud or silently: "I have a problem, and that can change; I want that problem to go away."  With two or three fingers tap these points seven times each: the center of your chest; the outer area between the thumb and index finger of both hands; the bone at the base of your neck.  Inhale with your attention focused on the top of your head; exhale with your attention on your toes.  Symptoms may change in intensity, location, or type. Repeat the above steps for continued benefit." (The Dynamid Technique, copyright 2003, Serge King, accessible through huna.org).
