One Source
Creation is made up of energy. From the stars in the sky to the soil beneath our feet and from the air that we breathe to the blood in our veins, we are all made up of the same stuff.
Existence is consciousness in a variety of manifestations. Everything – from an elephant to an amoeba and from a mountain to a molecule – has consciousness to one degree or another. Where there is life, there is energy. And where there is energy, there is consciousness. All life is connected because all life originates from the same source.
We don’t need science to tell us this – even though modern physics shows us that the Universe is created out of one vibrating energy field – because when our hearts are open and we are deeply rooted in this moment we feel it in our bones. We feel it because we are related to every animal, tree, plant, river and stone that has ever existed. We feel it because we are share a common ancestry with every single human being that has ever lived. And we feel it because our spiritual roots are deeply embedded in the Earth.
Mother Earth
Earth is more than just our home: Earth is our Mother. We have been created by her and we are supported by her intricate ecosystem. We are an intrinsic part of her and the connection stretches over aeons to create a web of oneness that is imprinted in our cellular memory.
Ancient cultures knew this and honoured the Earth as Gaia, the Great Goddess that gives birth to all life forms. But somewhere along the line, there’s been a collective amnesia. We’ve unplugged ourselves from the cosmic pulse and lost sight of the Earth as a living breathing organism. And we’ve forgotten that We Are All One.
Power Of Nature
But Nature holds a secret that will save us from destroying ourselves. It’s called interdependence, or as I like to call it, “the portal of the global heart”.
Inside everything that is natural is a sanctuary of sacredness that reminds us of who we are and our place in the bigger scheme of things. Nature has the ability to transport us into a direct experience of oneness.
Watch the sun set slowly over the horizon with unwavering presence and we are likely to experience the timelessness of ecstasy. Listen to the chatter of birdsong with an uncensoring ear and we will probably hear the sweet sound of silence. Sit long enough with a quiet mind by a bubbling stream and we will undoubtedly be immersed in stillness.
Simply being with Nature can take us beyond skin-encapsulated ego in the unbounded state of unity. And in the realization of our oneness, we cannot help but fall in love with every detail of God’s earthly garden of delights.
Our Purpose
We are not here to feather our own nests at the expense of those who cannot do so, nor are we here to plunder our planetary resources without a thought for future generations. And neither are we here to destroy, kill or fight those who are different in creed, colour and culture. On the contrary, we are here to realize the divinity of all life and to recognize the unity within the diversity.
We are here to know that everything is interconnected by an intricate web of energy that weaves its magic and makes this planet – and every single living inhabitant on it – so enchantingly precious.
The walls we have erected that prevent us from seeing our oneness can come tumbling down in an instant if we choose to shift our perception from the narrow lens of me-centred thinking to the 360 degree perspective that is afforded us when we inhabit an unobstructed heart.
The accumulation of money, possessions and power without regard for the effect on others, the world or the planet is a short-term view that keeps us locked into an infantile relationship with life. And the belief that we start and end with the boundary of our physical bodies keeps us trapped in separation that leads to suffering.
Taking Care Of The Future
When we realize that we are more than just our bodies, when we realize that we are eternal, then we will naturally grow out of the immaturity of self-centredness. Just like a leaf that drops from a tree in the autumn and decays on the ground to become compost for the growth of new life, we too return to the Earth to grow new seeds for those who come after us.
It is not only our children and our grandchildren who will suffer if we make myopic choices today. We will also suffer. Our souls keep returning to the earthly domain to experience the joy of remembering that we are co-creators of our reality. What sort of world will be come back to if we keep on being selfish? Our legacy to future generations is our legacy to ourselves.
We are the ones who inherit the future ... for better of for worse. It pays dividends to live now in the remembrance of our interconnectedness. We cannot afford to wait for one moment longer. It is time we got wise and woke up to the truth that We Are All One.
