Breathe into your body from the crown of your head to the tips of your toes and to the ends of each and every fingertip. Breathe into your whole body - every bone, every muscle, every limb, every cell, every particle - breathe into your skin and beyond... Breathe into the sensations on your skin - heat, coolness, breeze... And then start breathing into the space around you, breathe into the space beyond your body, beyond your skin, go beyond your physical body and into the subtle body - the aura - your radiance.
Our aura is the resonation of our entire chakra system. It is our radiance - the subtle face that we show the world.
Sometimes known as the eighth chakra, the aura is like a crystal, radiating our inner light through the chakra system and creating a rainbow of light around us, just like the sun glinting through a crystal prism.
When we create balance through our chakra system, in turn we create a strong aura. However it is not necessarily the case that when one of our chakras is blocked that we weaken our aura, but any blockage in our energetic field offers us a lesson in how to create balance and strength, our weaknesses are our lessons.
Our aura offers us a deeper understanding of ourselves and of the universe. It gives us the opportunity to expand our awareness way beyond our physical identity and personality to experience union with a force greater and more expansive than ourselves.
It is where we see the bigger picture and go beyond ourselves. We are not limited by the physical body and our ego, we start seeing where we create separation between ourselves and others, between ourselves and the universe... and between ourselves and God. Becoming aware of the aura shows us how the boundary that we create between ourselves and the other can simply melt...
So our aura is our electromagnetic field - it combines the effects of all the chakras, a projection of our inner vitatlity and is both our radiance - our projection... and our protection - it is like a buffer zone, or protective field.
For example, if we are talking to someone and they keep stepping forward into our space, we might often take a step back, we are realizing our boundaries, and although this person might not be actually physically touching us, we often feel that they have overstepped some boundary, stepped into our personal space, this is the protection that our aura gives us.
Our aura allows us to have energetic boundaries, as well as seeing how we can merge with the universe, it also creates our personal space, our personal boundaries so for example maybe when we are in love, or when we are babies and we merge with another, we don't lose ourselves.
Sometimes the aura is seen as our magnetism... when we have that certain push-pull with others, that chemistry that is beyond words, often this relates to our auric field, our subtle body. It is beyond the mind, beyond language, sometimes hinted at in our body language, but really even beyond the physicality of our being, it is something we feel deep inside ourselves, a sense of the universal space that we operate in.
Our auric field gives us the opportunity to extend beyond ourselves, it is not limiting in any way. When we work with our aura, we create space for ourselves in the universe.
All living things have an energetic vibration that creates an energy field around them. There is both auric and kirlian photography that captures this energetic form on film... studying pictures of the aura and colours, some people see different qualities of your chakras or personality like healing, compassion or problems with family within the auric picture.
Many people feel that weakness of holes in your auric field will forewarn physical states of illness and disease in the body, so the aura can be read like a health map of your physical body and your state of mind.
All meditation is good for strengthening the aura... triangle pose in Kundalini yoga (downward dog) is good for the aura, as are all arm exercises... anything that is playing in the space around the body! Anything where we feel a rush of energy in the body and then we can just simply sit in the sensations of the body, the tingling on the skin for example...
Try this Divine Shield Meditation
"Man's fundamental nature is to unfold, to evolve. Fear curtails this activity and you become unhappy. If you are fearless, your potentials will unfold. Without a regular habit of sadhana (meditative personal practice) to build the strength of the crystal aura, you are at the mercy of fears," says Yogi Bhajan. "If the magnetic shield is strong, negative thoughts turn to positive energy as they pass through the auric shield. This meditation calls on the cosmos or God through the sound of compassion and stimulates the inner sounds. The universe becomes the mother and you the child. Call and she shall come to your aid."
Sit with the right knee up and the left leg flat on the ground. The sole of the left foot faces the right foot and contacts it so that the ball of the left foot is just in front of the anklebone of the right foot. Lean back on the left arm making a fist of the hand and rest the right elbow on the right knee. The palm of the right hand rests so that the base of the thumb is on the cheek bone and the rest of the hand forms a cup over the ear with the top open. Inhale deep and begin chanting a long, smooth Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaa. Listen to this sound through the cupped palm. Continue for 3 to 7 minutes (you can build up to 31 minutes) and then change sides for an equal time.
