 Cerridwen For Wisdom

 Goddess Cerridwen

Cerridwen is the holder of wisdom – she offers us insight into our true selves. Knowledge can only take you so far, wisdom can take you to the source of yourself. Cerridwen shows us how to tap into our own innate wisdom.

“Goddess of Wisdom, Cerridwen's cauldron is a powerful symbol of transforming magic, and of the lessons learned through change and experience, as well as Divine creative inspiration. She is the tigress mother, dark goddess, prophetic crone, who pursues her interpretation of justice with unfailing energy,” says Goddess author Anita Revel.

Cerridwen (pronounced ker'rid-when) is a Welsh triple Goddess - Maid, Mother, and Crone. She represents the wisdom of ages – of innocence, fertility and death.

David Frawley says, “Meditation on the Goddess is a form of self-enquiry... The Goddess takes us beyond the realm of the known and the domain of time-space into the secrets of eternity-infinity. The Goddess does not merely give knowledge. She is the knowledge. Entering into the higher knowledge is to enter the body of the Goddess for our own spiritual rebirth. She is the knowledge that puts the mind to rest and returns us to the source.”

Finding The Goddess Within

When we recognize the Goddess within us, we tap into universal consciousness – the realm of healing, understanding and wholeness. This wisdom is not learned through books.

We can learn techniques, read scriptures, train under gurus, but until we turn our attention inwards and feel our own innate wisdom, we remain in ignorance.

How many times do we receive the same lesson over and over again in our lives, but choose to ignore it?

Sometimes we have very selective hearing, we tend to only hear, interpret or accept things that suit our world view. Often our minds are already made up. We see the universe in a particular way and find evidence to support it.

We reinforce the thought patterns that we have every day by the information we take in. Sometimes it takes a shock to wake us up - to shift our perception – to see the world, and ourselves in a new light.

Change

Self-enquiry makes us go beyond ourselves and the Goddess Cerridwen is a doorway to self discovery.

She often comes to us in times of change and times of flux. She may be a reminder that we are holding on to something that we need to let go of.

Often change, shock and trauma are wake-up calls that change our way of thinking, or our way of being. These instances are when we can go beyond the small self and see the bigger picture. This is the energy of Cerridwen. She is a Goddess of transitions and she helps you to let go of what holds you back and what no longer serves you.

Maybe you feel your relationship is over or you want to leave your job. Maybe you are at the end of a natural cycle but fear moving on. We need to celebrate that vulnerability and step into the unknown anyway… and Cerridwen is a Goddess that will light your new path.

Cerridwen is unbridled energy – she is a force to be reckoned with – she loves change. Her mantra is ‘Bring it on!’ or ‘Seize the Day!’

As one of the Celtic Pagan Goddesses, Cerridwen is revered by witches and shows us the magic in the universe. The cauldron is a central image associated with Cerridwen – and really the cauldron is a womblike vessel for wisdom. Often the Goddess is represented by the bowl, the God by the sword. The Goddess holds energy, holds wisdom.

“The cauldron is a pivotal symbol for Goddess worshippers the world over. It is called by Hindus the Pot of Blood in Kali’s Hand and by Egyptians the Underworld Womb or Lake of Fire. The cauldron is the precursor to the Christian Holy Grail and the chalice. The cauldron’s magic like that of the Goddess herself, is that of endlessly shifting shapes. Shamanic initiations in many cultures include boiling and rebirth in the Pot of the world,” says Carolyn McVickar Edwards, author of The Storytellers’ Goddess.

“We are all connected through the profound field of vibration,” says Sri Swamini Mayatitananda. “And therefore share a common responsibility for the well-being of the world, one that is entirely shaped by our own collective karma. Start to garner the ancient and crucial wisdom of kindness as your constant companion.”

This is the path of the Wisdom Goddess or Mother Consciousness. You can use this oil for wisdom and the head chakra – ten drops of carnation oil, five drops of lavender and two each of rosemary and spikenard – burn in an oil burner, or add to a carrier oil to anoint the body.
